The area of the MJ 3 South showing is underlain by Upper Triassic rocks of the Stuhini Group. An outcrop of dark grey argillite with 2 to 3 per cent fine-grained pyrite along fractures assayed 0.11 per cent copper (Sample DM-53, Assessment Report 18134).

The MJ 3 South showing was discovered and documented by International Phoenix Energy Corp/Prolific Resources in 1988. Follow-up work was conducted on the MJ property by Skeena Resources Ltd (formerly Prolific) in 1991.
